Tooth damage spells trouble for your dental health. Maybe there’s a crack or fracture from years of use, or there was a rock-hard surprise in that snack mix. Maybe a tooth broke because of a sports accident or untreated decay.
Crowns are a great choice when larger areas of decay or trauma cannot be replaced by filling material. However, there needs to be at least 1/4 of the tooth remaining.
Once the decayed/damaged area is removed, if there is not enough structure left, a crown may not be an option.
However, your provider will discuss all scenarios prior to the procedure.
